Egypt’s Defence Minister inspects central military zone

The commander of the central military zone affirmed that the zone’s troops will always remain in the highest degree of vigilance and preparedness to defend the homeland.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces and Minister of Defence, Mohamed Zaki, inspected on Monday the efforts of the central military zone to raise the combat competence of one of the mechanised infantry formations.

Through a statement released on the official Facebook page of the Armed Forces spokesperson, the inspection began with a presentation on the mechanised infantry formation’s combat efficiency and capabilities to carry out all combat tasks under various circumstances.

The commander of the central military zone affirmed that the zone’s troops will always remain in the highest degree of vigilance and preparedness to defend the homeland.

Egypt’s Defence Minister inspected a number of upgraded weapons provided to the formation within the framework of the development and modernisation strategy, implemented by the Armed Forces in all its branches.

According to the army spokesperson’s statement, the Commander-in-Chief talked with officers, non-commissioned officers, and soldiers on how to respond to emergency situations that may face them during implementing their duties.

The minister affirmed that the Egyptian Armed Forces witnessed an unprecedented leap in terms of training and armament in all its major formations and branches to support their combat capability in accordance with accurate scientific plans to face all challenges and threats to Egypt’s national security.

Army and police forces in Egypt have been engaged in a wide-scale militant operation launched against the Islamic State (ISIS) group’s branch in North Sinai since February 2018. The ISIS affiliated group, named Sinai Province, has been previously known as Ansar Byat El Maqdus group before declaring its ISIS affiliation in 2014.

The group is adopting an ideology that is based on considering all members of the army and police forces, and any civilians helping them as “infidels” who should be killed.

Since the start of the 2018 operation, the militant attacks have decreased significantly.
