Egypt, Georgia agree to boost economic cooperation at Silk Road Forum

Egyptian-Georgian Committee to convene in March 2020, after 9-year hiatus


Sahar Nasr, Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, and Georgian Prime Minister, Giorgi Gakharia, agreed to boost economic relations between the two countries.

During their meeting on the sidelines of the Silk Road Forum, the two sides discussed the re-activation of the Egyptian-Georgian Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation in March 2020 at the Georgian capital of “Tbilisi”, after a 9-year hiatus.


Gakharia praised the historical relations between the two countries, both on the political and economic fronts, stressing Georgia’s keenness in increasing cooperation in areas of common interest, namely, investment, tourism, education, transport, logistics, and culture.

On a different note, Nasr delivered the opening speech of the Roundtable on Investment and Sustainable Development, organised by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in Paris (OECD).

SecretaryGeneral of the OECD, Angel Gurría. praised the fundamental reforms adopted by Egypt during the past four years, through its ambitious programme, saying it will have social and environmental impacts as well as financial gains.
