Egyptian scientist’s body returns to his homeland

Funeral held in his hometown on Wednesday among his friends, students

The body of an Egyptian nuclear scientist who passed away in Morocco last week was transported to his homeland on Wednesday.

Abu Bakr Abdel Moneim Ramadan served as the head of the National Radiation Observatory Network at the Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority.

Ramadan’s family received his body and held a funeral on Wednesday in his home village in Al Qaliubiya governorate. Ramadan’s colleagues, friends, and students bid farewell to the Egyptian nuclear scientist, according to local media.

Ramadan died of an acute heart attack on Thursday evening according to the preliminary autopsy report. His death came during his participation in a workshop on marine pollution organised by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Egyptian ambassador to Morocco, Ashraf Ibrahim, revealed on Monday that during the meetings in the framework of the workshop, Ramadan felt tired and asked to go to his room.

His health condition deteriorated and the hotel was informed of it, which, in turn, informed those responsible for the workshop, and Ramadan was taken to hospital where he passed away.

Earlier this week, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry announced that it is following up with its embassy in Morocco the procedures to bring back the body of the nuclear researcher.
