Egyptian Football returns to stadium next month

Fans were not allowed to attend matches for years

The Ministry of Youth and Sports decided to reallow fans to return to the Egyptian stands again to attend matches gradually starting from September after years of being banned.

This came during a meeting of the Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy, head of Football Federation Hany Abou Reda, and the heads of Egyptian clubs, as well as the presence of representatives of the security authorities, to resolve the crisis of the return of the fans.

During the meeting, they agreed that around 5,000 fans will attend domestic league matches, which will be divided into 3,500 for the home team and 1,500 for the guests. A number of 20,000 fans will attend international matches.

The decision will be implemented with the approval of security authorities.

The Egyptian league season 2018/2019 started last week without the attendance of fans, marking the fifth consecutive league to be played without fans. Fans were banned from attending any domestic league games in Egypt since February 2012, when 72 Al Ahly supporters were killed in the football match held in the Port Said stadium.

In 2015, the ban was lifted, but was imposed again after the deaths of 22 Al Zamalek SC football fans, during an Egyptian Premiere League football match.
