Global smartphone sales register $478.7bn in 2017

$41.5bn worth of smartphones sold in Middle East, Africa 


The Chinese market dominated the largest share of the global smartphone market’s sales. According to an international report from Statista, smartphone sales reached $478.7bn in 2017, compared to $439.9bn in 2016.

China acquired $152.3bn in market sales in 2017, up from $133.1bn in 2016.

The North American region came in second place with a value of sales last year of $84bn, compared to $82.9bn in 2016.

According to statistics, Western Europe came third in terms of sales value. Sales in the West European market reached $56bn in 2017, compared to $53.5bn in 2016.

The Pacific region was fourth in terms of sales, with the region accounting for $44.2bn of smartphone sales in 2017, compared with $46.1bn in 2016.

The value of emerging market sales in the Pacific region reached $42.7bn last year, compared with $34.5bn the year prior.

The Middle East and Africa region ranked sixth in terms of smartphone sales, with sales in the region reaching $41.5bn in 2017, compared to $42.1bn in 2016.

Latin America accounted for $36.8bn of the smartphone market in 2017, compared with $30.9bn in 2016, while smartphone sales in 2017 in Eastern and Central Europe were $21.2bn, compared with $16.8bn in 2016.
