Egypt strongly condemns using chemical weapons in Syria

The Egyptian position towards the Syrian crisis is to support the political solution and the national army

Egypt strongly condemned the use of chemical weapons in the conflict in Syria from “any parties”, said Egypt’s permanent delegate to the United Nations (UN), Amr Abou El-Ata, state media reported.

Abou El-Ata spoke for Egypt before the Security Council’s session to discuss the chemical attacks in Syria, on Wednesday. He added that Egypt condemns all shapes of killing and destruction.

Egypt specifically condemns the random use of mass destruction weapons that affect innocent civilians, Abu El-Ata said. He stressed that Egypt supports the accountability of individuals, bodies, or authorities that have been involved in such “criminal actions.”

The Egyptian position towards the Syrian crisis is to support the political solution and the national army.

In November 2016, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi stressed during an interview with Portuguese TV that Egypt supports “national arms in Libya and Syria” and confronting terror groups. He also called for a political solution for the Syrian crisis.

In October 2016, Egypt’s permanent delegate to the Security Council voted for a Russian resolution regarding Syria, despite the rejection of Egypt’s allies in the Arab Gulf. The resolution called for halting all “offensive actions in Syria”, but excluded the Russian raids.
