The total value of electricity consumption bills during the last month reached EGP 12bn, including all household, commercial, and industrial sectors, as well as administrative and governmental sectors.
Sources at the Ministry of Electricity told Daily News Egypt that electricity distribution companies are committed to the prices announced by the Minister of Electricity and did not increase prices on consumption bills, but high temperatures last month resulted in increased consumption and thus the bill value rises with the increase in consumption and keeping ACs and fans on for over 20 hours per day.
July electricity bills shocked consumers. They complained from the high surge in bills, which exceeded 100% from the month before.

The consumption bill for July is the first application of the new increase in prices of the consumption segments according to the price structure program approved by the Ministry of Electricity.
Amna Lotfy, an engineer, said she was shocked by her household consumption bill that reached EGP 1,800, even though she spent 15 days in the North Coast and did not use the electricity at her house all that time.
She explained that she had contacted the Egyptian Electric Utility & Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency to complain and did not pay the bills. She was promised her issue will be resolved.
