Units affiliated to the Syrian army have curbed on Sunday an attack executed by the opposition group Al-Nusra Front. The attacks targeted numerous army checkpoints and areas in the Gubar district of Damascus.
According to a statement issued by the Syrian Embassy in Cairo, several units from the Syrian army have engaged in clashes with militants affiliated to the aforementioned group in the surroundings of military checkpoints.
Moreover, the forces affiliated to the Syrian army destroyed two car bombs that had been brought in by the Al-Nusra fighters to be used in the attacks. The two vehicles were destroyed before their arrival at the targeted military checkpoint, the statement added.
The statement said that the clashes left many of the attackers dead and that the sounds of explosions in the eastern parts of Damascus were the result of army operations carried out by the Syrian army in Gubar and El Qabon districts.
