Egypt wins 6 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze at British Junior Squash Open 2017

Egyptians surprised the crowd by winning six gold medals at the British Junior Squash Open 2017, which started on 2 January in Sheffield, England, and concluded its events on 6 January.

At the girls under 13 (G13) final, Egypt’s Salma El-Tayeb snatched the gold medal from her compatriot Noureen Khalifa, after the match ended 3-1 (11-6/9-11/11-7/11-8) in El-Tayeb’s favour. Khalifa won the silver medal.

Egypt’s Nour Aboul Makaram won the girls under 15 (G15) final against her compatriot Farida Ahmed, by 3-1 (11-6/11-9/8-11/11-4). Aboul Makaram won gold, and Ahmed won silver.

The third gold medal for Egypt came after Hana Moataz defeated England’s Elise Lazarus at the girls under 17 (G17) final, by 3-0 (11-9/11-6/11-6).

Another Egyptian who made Egypt proud was Hania El-Hammay. She won gold, as she defeated her compatriot Zeina Mickawy in the G19’s final by 3-1. Mickawy won silver.

This is the fourth gold for El-Hamamy in the British Junior Squash Open. In 2016, she won the G17, in 2015 she won the G15, and in 2013 she won the G13.

As for the boys under fifteen (B15) final, Egypt’s Yahia El-Nawasany won the fifth gold after he won the final against Malaysia’s Duncan Lee by 3-0 (11-9/11-3/11-5).

Marwan Tarek won the boys under 17 (B17) title. This victory came after he defeated his compatriot Omar El-Torky in the final by 3-1 (9-11/11-4/11-7/11-8). Silver went to El-Torky.

Kareem El-Torky meanwhile won bronze after defeating England’s Johan Bryant at the boys under 13 (B13) by 3-0 (11-8/11-3/11-7).
