Egyptian member of YPG killed in fight against IS in Syria

El-Imam was the first Egyptian in the YPG to be killed in the fight against IS

The Kurdish armed service known as the People’s Protection Units (YPG) mourned on Sunday an Egyptian volunteer named Badin El-Imam who was killed in a fight against the Islamic State (IS) militant group in northern Syria.

He was killed Wednesday along with two other foreign fighters in clashes with IS militants in Manbij, Aleppo.

El-Imam left Egypt months ago to join the YGP and other forces fighting against the notorious terrorist group.  He was the first Egyptian from the YPG to be killed in the fight against IS, and also the first non-Syrian national.

The YGP is comprised of Kurdish militia fighting against Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad and factions of IS in the country. Many foreigners have volunteered with YGP to fight against the Syrian regime and IS.
