Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns terrorist attack on church in France

The international community should unify its efforts to combat terrorism, says statement

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the terrorist attack on a church in France, in which an 84-year-old priest was killed and four other people taken hostage by two armed men.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the ministry’s spokesperson said that the international community should unify its efforts in order to combat the spread of terrorism which has caused several casualties and the deaths of innocent people.

Following the attack, French president Francois Hollande said that the Islamic State (IS) was involved in this attack and that France will fight back.

The news agency affiliated with IS confirmed that the militant organisation was behind the attack.

In the attack that took place in a suburb of Rouen, northern France the militants were reportedly carrying knives and filmed themselves preaching in Arabic.

France has witnessed several terrorist incidents over the past 18 months, all of which were proved to have been executed by the IS group. A state of emergency has been imposed following several major attacks, the latest of which was on Bastille Day and left about 84 dead.
