‘Port of Koper Day’ signifies increase in cooperation between Slovenia, Egypt

A previous mutual cooperation agreement between Koper and several Egyptian ports, including Damietta and Alexandria, has provided the groundwork for Egypt and Slovenia to boost their economic cooperation


Given its strategic location, Slovenia’s port city Koper provides a natural access point between Egypt and Europe.

A previous mutual cooperation agreement between Koper and several Egyptian ports, including Damietta and Alexandria, has provided the groundwork for Egypt and Slovenia to boost their economic cooperation.

As a gesture of goodwill, the Embassy of Slovenia in Egypt, in cooperation with Koper, organised “Port of Koper Day” on 30 March at the Hotel Sofitel Cairo El-Gezirah.

The event discussed opportunities for Egypt by choosing Koper as a hub for  shipping, logistic operators, importers, and exporters.

Progress in the upgrading of mutual trade flow and shipping line connections achieved over the past year was also discussed at the event.

Attendees from Slovenia included: Tanja Miškova, ambassador of Slovenia to Egypt; Dragomir Matić, president of the management board at Luka Koper PLC; Andrej Cah, sales and marketing director at Luka Koper PLC; Nenad Bojanić, vice-president of the Slovenian Association of Port Logistics Providers; Roman Božić, head of general cargo terminal at Luka Koper PLC; and Miha Kalčič, container terminal sales manager at Luka Koper PLC.

Representatives from the Slovenian logistics providers operating in the port of Koper, as well as representatives of Slovenian companies from the transport and logistics sector, were also present.

Guests attending on behalf of Egypt included: Adm Tarek Ghanem Abdel Motaal, president of the maritime transport sector at the Ministry of Transport; Mohamed Abdalla Badr, deputy minister at the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade; Medhat El-Kady, chairman of the Egyptian International Freight Forwarding Association (EIFFA), who was present on behalf of the EIFFA and of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce-FEDCOC; Marwan El-Sammak, chairman of the Alexandria Business Association; Kahled El-Banna, board member for the Agricultural Export Council; Sherine El-Hakim, board member for the Horticultural Export Improvement Association; Islam El-Bagory, assistant export director for Technogreen Co.; and Sherif Rashed, Koper Port promoter in Egypt.
