A World Association for Small- and Medium-sized Enterprises (WASME) delegation will visit Cairo next month to coordinate with the Egyptian government to promote Egypt’s small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector.

During its visit, WASME will present its experiences in drafting a new Egyptian SME law, according to an association press release Tuesday.

The delegation will visit Egypt from 17 to 22 May, and will meet Minister of Industry and Trade Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour. During the visit, discuss cooperation opportunities to promote SMEs in Egypt will be discussed, according to Vice President-MENA Region at WASMEKhaled Nagaty.

WASME will discuss with Abdel Nour craft nurseries, as they are considered one of the important methods for supporting SMEs, as evident from the successful experiences India and South Africa had with such nurseries.

Nagaty added that WASME stresses the importance of training young graduates, transforming their minds into those of entrepreneurs and owners of SMEs to reduce Egypt’s unemployment rate.

“The visit will include discussions on training young graduates, especially with medium-level qualifications, on starting a small business or microenterprise,” said Nagaty.

Furthermore, WASME will present its experiences with distance education ‘E- Learning’”.

Nagaty added the delegation will discuss with the government coordination in holding the annual WASME conference in Egypt for the first time, which will be attended by approximately 1,500 SMEs from various countries.

The conference will present cooperation between foreign and Egyptian SMEs, and discuss ways of doing business between SMEs and international and government officials.

In addition, the WASME will arrange a meeting with the Social Fund for Development (SFD), which has long been a WASME member, according to Nagaty.
