The case against Freedom and Justice Party Leader Mohamed Al-Beltagy, currently under investigation for insulting the judiciary was postponed on Sunday until to 7 July.

Over 1150 reports were filed by judges and members of the general prosecution against Al-Beltagy, as well as Former MP Mohamed Al-Omda and Al-Wasat Party leader Essam Sultan, accusing them of insulting the judiciary.

Al-Beltagy’s lawyer Mohamed Al-Damaty stated that the claimants provided CDs and videos of the defendants from several satellite channels in which they “harshly” criticised court verdicts, rulings by the Supreme Constitutional Court, and release orders in the trials of former regime figures.

Al-Damaty said that his defence is based on the violation of criminal procedures law during the course of the investigation itself.

“Article nine states that investigations should be based on the demand of the head of the insulted institution,” he noted.

He added that he had requested a copy of all the reports filed, copies of all the CDs and the videos, as well as the decision to assign Judge Tharwat Hammad to the case.

Al-Beltagy was present on Sunday accompanied by a number of Brotherhood lawyers including Abdel Moneim Abdel Maqsoud, Nasser Al-Hafy, Gamal Hanafy and Mohamed Al-Damaty.
